You are invited to one Super Sassy Weekend!
2012 has probably been my most un-DJ-ey year since I started playing records for people back in '05. Don't get me wrong, I've had the chance to play a couple of great nights this year, but while the quality has been there, the quantity has been pretty low as far as Sassquatch DJ sets go. With this weekend however, it feels right like I'm back in 2006, playing 3 shows in as many days; prepare yourselfves for The Super Sassy Weekend!
Tonight, at Linden's Amuse, I'll be teaming-up my main-man Nathan Scott Phillips to play the debut of a brand new dance party called Like!
On Saturday afternoon it's a SMAC-double attack! I'll be DJ alongside SMAC's first prince of wonky-pop Vampire9000! If that weren;t enough cause of excitement, the two of us are only a small part of a lineup that includes Yo Grapes, A Skyline on fire, Spookwolf, Dr Khumalo & Yesterday's Pupil! This dream team has been assembled by the lovely wolf-creature known as Doktrine, who will be celebrating the launch of the brand new PERMANENT incarnation of their incredible DIY store, Die Skim Grot!
Then, this Sunday it's another sunshine session, this time 12 stories up in the sky over Maboneng! I'll be joining a great collection of acts, including Cape Town's Beach Party and Jozi BFFs The Frown. Feiyue have been kind enough to invite us to play the rooftop The 12 Decades Hotel! This is gonna be fun-overload!!!

Motèl Mari - Just Like A King
Earlier this week a did a post on Mpumi Mcata's great "Africa in your earbuds" mix. Today I'm happy to share a music video for one of the man's bands. Motèl Mari's "Just Like A King" just so happens to also be directed by Mpumi himself, who's clearly having a lot of fun bouncing between different creative outlets. Banging on drums, making mixtapes, directing videos - it's the kind of cross-medium awesomeness I wish we'd see more of in this city!

Beach Party Go Trippin!
Cape Town's ultra-loveable guitar-squad known as Beach Party are making their way up north! The band have a stellar set of dates lined up - if it's within your power make your way to every one of these events because they're all gonna be great!
To summarise, the band are starting with a DJ set at Bob Rocks tomorrow night.
Then they're joining the ludicrously good Make Overs in the ludicrously divey Bohemian in Jozi!
Then they'll be supporting the Tutus, launching their mega-anticipated third album at Pretoria's Arcade Empire!
Then, as the final date of the tour, the band will be back in JHB, playing an afternoon set on the rooftop of the 12 Decades Hotel! The sunshine show will also feature The Frown, Shadowclub, DJ Invisible and me, donning my fuzzy Sassquatch suit!

Africa in your earbuds
Mpumi of the BLK JKS put together a really great mixtape. It's comprised of all kinds of awesomeness, local and international. Notably, the mix features tracks by Mpumi's own bands, the genre-bending BLK JKS and his more recent (fantastic) side project with Joao Orecchia, Motèl Mari as well as solid gold from the ultra-lovely force that is Christian Tiger School. What's more "Africa in your earbuds #20" incorporates SMACM's own price of mutant-pop, Vampire9000! Grab the mixtape below!

Make Overs: Too Much?
Make Overs have got to be two of the most productive people on the face of The Earth.
A little less than two months since the band released Centipede-sing-a-long (their 3rd album) the band announced they would soon be launching their 4th full-length, the aptly titled "Too Much?" Not wanting to make their fans feel like they're being exploited, the band were nice enough to make this 4th release freely available via a download, complete with a template to print and cut out your own art for the disc.

MAKE OVERS
TOO MUCH?
To answer the album title's question, I really don't think is too much at all - it's just great in my book! I do however wish we'd see some other local bands with even half the drive and energy that the Make Overs seem to be made out of.Don't forget, you can catch the band doing their thing tomorrow night at Silverton Rock Shack, as a part of the Pretoria Bateleur "Cargo Cults" launch!

You are invited to Bateleur's Cargo Cults Gauteng launches!
The good news is, Bateleur are driving up to Gauteng for a set of launch parties for Cargo Cults on that side of the country. Joined by a selection of the finest live acts we have to offer, I hope these nights will be just as memorable as their Cape Town counterpart was!

You are invited to Swim!
I've had a pretty damn awesome two weeks in Cape Town, but unfortunately it's time to go home. Luckily the wonderful human beings known as Aaron Peters and Matt Hitchens are throwing a great little party on my last night in town.
Swim, their brand new bi-monhtly night, has been a great success so far and I'm very excited to be playing the third instalment of the genre-warping series. As the guest DJ for the night, I was also asked to design the flyer for the event and outdid myself with some super-sexy-CJ-Parker-power!
Desmond & The Tutus - Zim Zala Bim
Mnusic - the second album from Desmond & The Tutus is almost upon us!
The highly anticipated LP lands next weekend, and if you need any more reason to be excited about this fact, here's the music video to band's second single off the album!
