The oh-so-excellent Gil Hockman is gearing up to record and release his second album and he needs your help!

Following on his lovely debut, Gil is the first South African awesomeness-creator (that I've heard of) making use of Kickstarter to make an album a reality.

Less than a week left to bid on Cargo Cults!

Hurry! You have a little less than a week left to bid on one of the incredible, one-of-a-kind artist editions of Cargo Cults, the fantastic second EP by Bateleur.

I've seen a fair amount of nicely packaged music in my time, but nothing really comes close to these 12" wooden discs, individually reworked by one of 5 great local artists. These unique homes for this wonderful collection of music are going out to their new owners at the end of this week so

Rebel Alliance 5 in videos!

Two weekend's back we hosted Rebel Alliance 5. Over the past few years, when putting together events, my main focus has heavily been in creating spaces where people team-up to create awesome stuff. In conjunction with Cam's efforts through Turn Your Lights Up High, we've done a bunch of events that I've been very proud of. From the mass cardboard-robot building sessions of Dynamo, to the more recent horror army that brought Monster Hospital to life, I think we've started little sparks that turned into blazing fires, far more massive than anything I'd hoped for. But as awesome as those past nights were, they don't hold a candle to the completely over-the-top super collaboration that was Rebel Alliance 5.

Today I'm very happy to share with you the full visual program of the night. This fifth episode marked the first of the nights where all material screened was made from scratch for Rebel Alliance. These three video represent the combined efforts of no less than 47 different people. Thanks to the collected creative powers of these animators, illustrators, photographers and musicians, I am now very happy to share with you the visual program of Rebel Alliance 5!
P.S. Visit these clips on vimeo for full credits on all projects!

Jingle Jizz Art!

This Friday night will be celebrating the Johannesburg launch of Jingle Jizz, the new EP from instramental annomolies, Us Kids Know. In anticipation of this special evening I thought I'd share one half of the artwork created for the EP. While the other half of the photos shot for the EP were done by Mr. Patrick Dinneen, the half shown here were taken by Miss. Lindi Goosen with art direction by Miss. Angela Hancock!

Hooray for Humans! Eyes Like Mirrors EP on the way!

The debut Eyes Like Mirrors EP is being mastered. The band and our extended creative family are also working on finishing off the artwork, the band's first music video and a very special event to celebrate the launch of the EP. Saying we're excited about all this would be a bit of an understatement.

Hooray for Humans! Night Sky Empire Durban tour diaries!

Last November Jozi instramentalists Night Sky Empire did a tour of Durban. They also took counter-culture documentarian and Animal Call hero Musa Nxumalo along for the ride. Personally I think it's awesome seeing such a young band already spreading their wings and playing shows outside of Gauteng. The band put together a diary of the tour which is a pretty fun read - check it out here! And being the hardworking kids they are, the boys also shot and edited together a video documenting their adventures which you can watch right here:
