You are invited to that last Hi5 of 2013!

On Sunday night Hi5 is back! Our series of guitar-centric dance parties returns for one last bust out in 2013! Our live acts for the night are two of my personal favourites; Motèl Mari (back from a recent tour of Europe) & Ampersand (back from the dead). Supporting the bands, all three of Hi5's hearts (Plaat Japie, Nathan Scott Phillips & Sassquatch) will be playing DJ sets. Awesome times guaranteed!

You are invited to be a party animal!

This Friday I'll be involved in a rediculously exciting gig!

Jose Cuervo are bringing over two great acts; power-pop superheroes The Subways (in full rock and roll glory) and 90ies alt-hop legends, The Fun Lovin' Criminals (in their deadly awesome DJ form)!

What's more, a stupid awesome collection of local acts have been summoned to support these two. I really can't get over just how many of my favourites have been crammed into one bill - it's gonna be incredible!

I'll be lucky enough to contribute to these good times twice over the course of the night! First, spinning records as DJ Sassquatch and seconds spinning in circles with Kidofdoom. This is the final show we have lined up for our rather drawn our reunion tour, so will be pretty bitter sweet for me, but we honestly couldn't ask for a better big bang to go out on.

Tickets are set at the ludicrously low price of R100 - get em here!

Park Acousitcs with Last Dinosaurs

Park Acoustics is happening again on Sunday! This episode will be headlined by Australian band, Last Dinosaurs with support from so many good local acts that it kills me. I'll be on VJ duty for the DJs once the bands finish. Consider me stoked!

The Plastics - White Rabbit Tour

My friends in The Plastics recently asked me to draw them a poster for an upcoming tour up country. Here's what I came up with:

You are invited to Last Dinosaurs Joburg!

Next!

Tomorrow night I am playing what promises to be a really great gig. For starters, the supporting acts are some of my favourites from across the country. Then there's the main act, Australia's own Last Dinosaurs!

Too say I'm excited for this one would be an understatement!

Your invited to Hello Ambasador!

I've got a very eventful weekend on the horizon with a whole bunch of awesome stuff going down. I'll be you to all these awesome stuff and first, we've got something very special!
Hello Ambassador will be Pretoria's very first creative confrence! Taking place in the city's State Theater, the organisers have assembled a fantastic, diverse collection of local creatives to speak at the event. Including...
... me!

This is the first time I'll be speaking at an event of this kind and I'm really looking forward to chating about VJing and throwing parties and animating stuff and playing shows and releasing music and drawing kittens. I am up on Saturday afternoon. Here's the full lineup.

After the conference, there's gonna be an epic roof top after party.

The Make Overs are playing which should tell you everything you need to know. (If not, what you need to know is this is gonna be awesome.)

Kidofdoom - Oppikoppi 2013

I've been pretty silent for the last while, haven't done a post in ages looking back on any of the audio visual adventures I've been having over the last while. Let me just say, these adventures have been numerous and all kinds of awesome. Of all of them, one thing that has really exploded my heart into hundreds of happy little shards, is the Kidofdoom reunion tour.

I really can possibly exagerate how down happy it's made me to be back on stage with these boys and we've been lucky enough to play 5 completely stellar shows on the tour so far.

Below, is a video of our last (and by far most massive) show of the tour, Oppikoppi Bewilderbeast. Our previous shows at the festival were really special and it was so great being able to return to Koppi. Honestly, I do think this show took the cake and really eclipsed those past appearances, awesome as they were.

MK shot the whole thing and a good check of the show can be viewed below. If you're wondering how I look when I'm the happiest man on the planet, hit play now.

The band will be performing on Sunday at Park Acoustics. Unfortunately, as a daytime party, there aren't any visuals, so no keytar antics for me. BUT I have a trick or two up my sleeve, so don't rule this Sassquatch out of the equation.

Then, the (probably) last time Kidofdoom will be on stage for a long long time will be for Rocking The Daisies 2013. An incredible festival, I am just stupid excited for this!

You are invited to Yoh! Under the Sea!

On Saturday night I'm playing the next Joburg edition of Yoh!

The Cape Town based cross-medium monsters have (amongst other things) been throwing a steady stream of super fun nights that combine film appreciation with unhinged dance-floor antics. Recently starting spreading out to start throwing nights in Jozi, I'm really stoked to be part of their next Gauteng episode; "Under The Sea"!

BEWILDERBAIRRE- Al Bairre Goes To Oppi

Cape Town's Al Bairre are one of my favourite new bands to come out of South Africa in the last few years. Unfortunately, cosmic forces have conspired against me, making sure I missed seeing the band live at every turn. That was, until Oppikoppi, where I finally got to see the kids in action, and what awesome action it was!

The band made a wee documentary about their adventures getting up North to play the festival. Watch it below!

In other news, the kids want you to vote for them to play with The Hives. For the sake of all that is good and righteous, you should probably do this.

The Plastics - Occasional Lies

So here's something I am mega-excited to share with you!

I was recently invited to do a bit of animation for some Cape Town friends called The Plastics. When I saw what they wanted me to animate over, my brain exploded.

Directed by Duran Levinson & Baden Moir, this video is pretty much all my heart desires. That is: cats and guitars. I was very, very happy to be involved in this project and am really pleased with how everything came together. But why am I making you do all this reading when you could just be watching kittens smashing tambourines? Let me just shut up and let you watch the video!

You are invited to The Hi5 Cosmic Caravan!

The tenth episode of Hi5 is around the corner and we've got an extra special party planned for this one!

Griet have invited us to take over their Caravan Stage at this year's Grietfest. We've picked out a great collection of DJs to play said caravan and have drawn up some crazy decor and lighting plans to transform it into "The Cosmic Caravan". Can't wait for this one!

Bye Beneco - On The Line

While Joburg lies mostly dormant on the new band front, Bye Beneco are one of the few awesome new bands the city has birthed over the last while. The young band have been doing great and it's really encouraging to see how they've been making great things happen. They just released their first music video which is for their song On The Line. Check it out!

Disco de Moda - Disco Sucks so Good!

This Saturday I'll be joining a fantastic lineup for a party that promises to be nothing short of inter-stellar!

On the 27th of July Disco de Moda will spreading it's wings; taking a brief flight away for it's much loved home at Kitcheners for one night at an exciting new venue called Chez Ntemba. The first event of it's kind to be held in Chez Ntemba, I am MEGA excited to see this venue. The space itself was once know as Sunningdales Hotel, a charming, but really seedy spot where we threw the Television parties back in 2006 and later Electric Affair. Since then, Sunningdales went under and the space has been reclaimed and completely reworked. Going by photos, it's gonna be something else!
So yeah, there's this exciting new venue, but beyond that, there's just so much to say about this party! For starters, feast your eyes on the poster for the night, created by my incredibly talented partner in crime, Matt McFarlane!
Then there's the promo video, created by VJ Grace Jones who, as fate would have it, will be spitting out eye candy on the night as well!

Then there's this neat drink special they're running on the night, serving up gin and tonics (the most disco of all beverages) for a mere R20 a glass.

There's also a really great mix tape that DDM head honcho Data Takashi mixed; the perfect soundtrack to getting you stoked for this party!

Then, there's the big one, an incredibly cool competition Disco de Moda are running with We Are Awesome. Get all the details here!
Lastly, there's the actual lineup of the night. In my books, it's nothing short of perfect. Most prominently Cape Town superhero Tommy Gun will be flying up for this show. Then an awesome selection from Jozi herself, we'll have Data takashi, Casioheart, H-Bomb, Rakkie and myself. I'm lucky enough to be playing two sets on the night! My main slot will be at 11PM, but I'll also be playing a three way battle with Tommy Gun and Data Takashi at the start of the night. Gonna be mountains of fun.

In short, this really is the most exciting dance party to go down in Joburg in ages. You'd have to be one very foolish sucker to miss out on this!

RSVP here!

John Wizards - Lusaka by night

Cape Town's John Wizards have just released a music video for their track Lusaka By Night. Animated by Sebastian Borkenhagen the video is a perfect extension of the artwork for the band's upcoming, self-titled album and it's also a lot of fun. Check it out!

SMACM009 - Jaysynth - Until we meet again

I'm very happy to say "Until we meet again", the debut Jaysynth album and our 9th release through SMACM is out!

The album is a beautiful collection of 8 songs. It's a bit of a heart wrenching listen; rather melancholy, but there's a strong feeling of hope bubbling under and ultimately it's a pretty triumphant record. Overall, it leans a lot more towards post rock than the earlier Jaysynth EPs did.

As with all SMAC releases, the album is freely available online. For proper fans, there's been a small run of CDRs packaged in hand crafter sleeves. Get in touch if you'd like one! Otherwise:

Yo are invited to Hi5 Yo Grapes!

Tonight marks the next episode of Hi5! This will be the 8th episode in this new series and I guess once we get to ten I can't keep calling it new anymore.

For our eight instalment, we have a very firm SMAC favourite, Yo Grapes. I've been in love with this project from the release of his first single, Outside, so finally hosting him at a SMAC event is going to be great. Supporting, we have a brand new solo project called Phosphene. This far, Phos has released two singles and I'm really looking forward to seeing what his live show it like. As always, Plaat Japie and i will be on DJ duty, but will this week also be joined by our dear friend Doctor Khumalo!
