Your invited to Hello Ambasador!

I've got a very eventful weekend on the horizon with a whole bunch of awesome stuff going down. I'll be you to all these awesome stuff and first, we've got something very special!

Hello Ambassador will be Pretoria's very first creative confrence! Taking place in the city's State Theater, the organisers have assembled a fantastic, diverse collection of local creatives to speak at the event. Including...

... me!

This is the first time I'll be speaking at an event of this kind and I'm really looking forward to chating about VJing and throwing parties and animating stuff and playing shows and releasing music and drawing kittens. I am up on Saturday afternoon. Here's the full lineup.

Hi5! Live! Make Overs and Black Lung!

For the next episode of Hi5 we've got an extra rock and roll selection of awesome! This week we welcome Cape Town noise-merchant Black Lung, who will be in town on their first tour up North. On top of this we'll be hosting Make overs - a band who's praises I have sung over and over and over again on this blog. The night marks the band's first Joburg show after returning to SA after a highly successful tour of The States - needless to say, the band is sure to be on fire!

Additional to the bands performing, M & A from Make Overs return as KRNGY DJs - spinning a set of vinyl gems they harvested while traveling through The US. Ri and I will be spinning some records ourselves - awesome times are guaranteed!

Beach Party Go Trippin!

Cape Town's ultra-loveable guitar-squad known as Beach Party are making their way up north! The band have a stellar set of dates lined up - if it's within your power make your way to every one of these events because they're all gonna be great!

To summarise, the band are starting with a DJ set at Bob Rocks tomorrow night.

Then they're joining the ludicrously good Make Overs in the ludicrously divey Bohemian in Jozi!

Then they'll be supporting the Tutus, launching their mega-anticipated third album at Pretoria's Arcade Empire!

Then, as the final date of the tour, the band will be back in JHB, playing an afternoon set on the rooftop of the 12 Decades Hotel! The sunshine show will also feature The Frown, Shadowclub, DJ Invisible and me, donning my fuzzy Sassquatch suit!

Make Overs: Too Much?

Make Overs have got to be two of the most productive people on the face of The Earth.

A little less than two months since the band released Centipede-sing-a-long (their 3rd album) the band announced they would soon be launching their 4th full-length, the aptly titled "Too Much?" Not wanting to make their fans feel like they're being exploited, the band were nice enough to make this 4th release freely available via a download, complete with a template to print and cut out your own art for the disc.

To answer the album title's question, I really don't think is too much at all - it's just great in my book! I do however wish we'd see some other local bands with even half the drive and energy that the Make Overs seem to be made out of.

You are invited to Bateleur's Cargo Cults Gauteng launches!

This past weekend I was lucky enough to be involved in a very special event that went down in Cape Town. Last Friday night Bateleur celebrated the launch of their second EP Cargo Cults, and did so in pretty awesome fashion. I had the opportunity to do visuals with the band. Working around the existing visual world the great Stuart Ziegler has created for the band, I think it was one of the best things I've created with Seafox and my little projector. The really nice thing was close on 700 people pulled through to the show to see what magic Bateleur had conjured up - it really was a pretty special thing.

The good news is, Bateleur are driving up to Gauteng for a set of launch parties for Cargo Cults on that side of the country. Joined by a selection of the finest live acts we have to offer, I hope these nights will be just as memorable as their Cape Town counterpart was!
